ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Modlingua is an ISO 9001 certified translation, training and language service delivery company based in New Delhi, which was founded in 1999 by Prof. Ravi Kumar. All of the team members of Modlingua are professionals and expert in many fields such as languages, translation, interpretation, localization. In addition, “Modlingua has independent specialized divisions namely Lingua India, and HR lingua that help it offer customized solutions in Indian Languages, Language Training and HR consultancy for languages respectively”. The purpose of the internship was to provide language experts a professional and commercial knowledge of language industry, the importance of Translators as an integral part of the commerce and business and more importantly providing a platform where linguists from all over the world may work under one roof in a professional way.
Mr. Ravi Kumar is Serial Entrepreneur and Founder of Modlingua Group, a leading translation company with 500 clients spread across the globe. Also, Ravi Kumar has served as a faculty member for Spanish and Latin American Studies (2000-2013) at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi, ranked amongst Top 10 Business Schools in India. He is a seasoned translator and interpreter, who has even worked as Simultaneous Interpreter for Prime Minister, President as well as Vice President and Foreign Minister of India. He has achieved endless achievements, the list goes on.
The Summer Internship 2018 at Modlingua lasts approximately for 3 months. It was a series of online classes and assignments which was successfully executed with the help of Ravi Kumar and his team. This online program provides the means to thousands of language experts to meet at a single platform from all around the world. Ravi Kumar facilitates virtual interactions or meetings through zoom app. Through these meetings, the founder and mentor gave us instructions to carry out all our assignments successfully and with ease. The deadlines were set, which helped us to accomplish the work in a professional way. Furthermore, he arranged guest lectures which gave an opportunity to make face to face interactions with the famous personalities related to the field of Translation and expand our horizons related to the respective field. On top, at times there were questions and answer rounds with those guest lectures. Naming some of the guest lectures: Mrs. Veena Krishnamurthy, Dr. Julian Zapata and more.
ASSIGNMENTS
The internship was divided into 8 assignments assisted by out mentor Mr. Ravi Kumar throughout the program. The assignments were followed by proper instructions that needed to be followed at the time of execution of the task. The brief about the assignments are as follows:
Assignment 01- Analysis of errors and omissions in Content Writing
In this assignment, we were instructed to analyze our detailed profile (1. Your Profile Photo 2. Your Brief Profile 3. Career Goals ) which we were asked submit at the time of enrolling in the internship, with the help of quoted example and two videos provided.
Assignment 02- Quality Control in Content Writing and Translation
Prior to the realization of this assignment, we were asked to watch some videos related to various topics like Modlingua Rubric of Error Control, Quality Standards in Translation, 7 Quality Standards one must know, How to collaborate through social media platform, Grammarly for error control. Later on these topics, the questions were quoted to which we were to be answered in the given word limit. The subjects include: Quality Standards in translation (initiatives), basic concepts of standardization and standards, Quality control and its linguistic and non-linguistic aspects and the quality standards function in this balance, Translation Process across the globe, and finally we learned 7 quality standards we should know.
Assignment 03- Transcription
In this, each intern was asked to choose a video of his / her own choice from Modlingua youtube channel and first get it approves by the mentor and then, carry out the word to word transcription with pauses and paragraphs in any interesting language.
Assignment 04- Subtitle
In this task, we need to make use of the transcription assignment and upload the same as Subtitle directly on our YouTube channel. The idea was to apply the transcription task in the real situation.
Assignment 05 Social Media Marketing
In this assignment, we were given four questions related to social media marketing and out of which we were asked to accomplish one question in the given word limit, with the help of some videos provided. The subjects of the online meeting include: how to apply the AIDA model (awareness, interest, desire, and action) to online marketing; marketing strategies (pull and push marketing); advantages and disadvantages of online marketing etc.
Assignment 06 Script Writing
We were asked to prepare a script on any of the key persons involved in Translation, Interpretation, Content writing, editing, teaching, writing or literature. Some of the personalities opted were: Anthony Pym, Susan Bassnett, Noam Chomsky, Gideon Toury, Jerry Pinto, George Steiner, Walter Benjamin and many more. Each intern chose a distinct personality to work on.
Assignment 07 Business Personality
In the respective assignment, we were asked to prepare a video script on any of the entrepreneurs ( social or business) with the success mantra of the given personality. Each intern prepared script on a unique business magnate.
Assignment 08 Final Project Report
In it, we need to prepare a report including all the activities that we did during the internship at Modlingua. For example, things/assignments that we did, Volunteering options we opted, How it helped, Advantages/disadvantages of an online internship, Experience at Modlingua, Conclusion etc.
During the internship, we were presented by the volunteering works and options. In which I opted for the creative summary for a video, "Speech to Text Technologies interaction with Dr. Julian Zapata", which included question and answer round between the guest lecture and the interns of Modlingua. Later on, which was also published by Ravi Kumar for the respective video on Youtube channel of Modlingua.
PERSONAL EVALUATION- THE THINGS THAT I LEARNED
The overall experience of me during the internship was enlightening. The internship was online and completely for free which opened the door widely for a large number of people from different countries around the world to join. The internship was helpful, beneficial, and fruitful. I have learned various new things in different fields which added a lot to my skills and career. In addition, I acquired a lot of knowledge and gained new experience working as professions, abiding rules and regulations. I think Modlingua is the right place where one can experience the corporate working style and go ahead with the wonderful experience. Here we were taught to implement the things we just learned about and also how to handle workload and time management skill. We have learned that how we should take care of the clients’ requirements and work accordingly.
As far as a teaching methodology is concerned, it was well organized, descriptive, full of resources and narrated in a simple, clear and lucid way. The efforts of Mr.Ravi Kumar as a Teacher, Mentor and Guide is really appreciable and would like to extend my sincere regard for the same. He made an extra effort to build a team of hundreds of interns through social media sites and be in touch all the time. Sometimes I failed to cope up with the deadlines, but he was comprehensive and patient all the time.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, my experience with Modlingua was quite memorable. It broadens my horizon not only in the field of translation but also in various fields such as entrepreneurship, project management, personal branding, content writing and other topics. The online meetings made us know new people, exchange opinions with other people, and identify other cultures. I confronted many new things and learned from them a lot, this could not be possible without our mentor Ravi Kumar. I am extremely grateful to him, for giving me such a great opportunity and allowing me to be a part of Modlingua family. The efforts made by Ravi Kumar are worthy of consideration and I acknowledge him. This internship is an excellent platform which tells us about the fathomless career opportunities related to Translation.
I am very fortunate to be the part of such a big family, where people from every corner of the world meets, where all can share different views on a specific topic which further could help to see a single topic from various and unique approaches.
At last, I would like to say that I am taking an unforgettable experience with me and I would love to be a part od Modlingua in future as well. I want to congratulate Mr. Ravi Kumar for taking such a genuine and sincere efforts to make Modlingua worldwide famous. His efforts are truly significant, praiseworthy and admirable.
